TRAI calls out Vodafone, Idea, and Airtel after subscribers receive warning messages about minimum prepaid recharge plans

Vodafone, Idea, and Airtel have just announced minimum prepaid recharges for their subscribers stating that in order to avail free incoming calls, users will have to recharge their cellular connections with these minimum prepaid recharges which are valued at Rs. 35, Rs. 65 and Rs. 95, all of which come with a validity of 28 days.

This move was taken keeping in mind that there are a lot of mobile phone users who are just using their cellular devices for incoming calls which were earlier free on these carriers. However, in order to cut down the costs, Vodafone, Idea, and Airtel have announced these minimum prepaid recharge plans.
A subscriber of either of these carriers will have to opt for a minimum recharge of Rs. 35 in order to avail incoming calls along with the benefits of the plan itself. Once the validity of this plan, which is 28 days, expires, they won’t be even able to receive incoming calls. The same is the case with Rs. 65 and Rs. 95 prepaid recharge plans from Vodafone, Idea, and Airtel which come with better benefits but with the same validity.
Alternatively, subscribers can also opt for unlimited prepaid recharge plans which also come with long-term validity as well as better benefits such as daily data, unlimited calling, SMS and more.oadinNow, this decision by Vodafone, Idea, and Airtel is expected to affect users who are using their cellular connection from these telcos as a secondary s in rural areas who just want to receive incoming calls for free. Moreover, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has started receiving several complaints from subscribers that they have got sages on their phones stating that it is now mandatory to recharge their prepaid accounts if they want to continue to avail services from these telcos even though their account have sufficient balances, according to aTelecom.

ET Telecom also reached out to these company but got a response from Vodafone Idea only. The recently merged Indian telco said that they have been communicating with their subscribers on a regular basis and have launched the minimum recharge plans keeping in mind that they should be easy to understand and use.
On the other hand, TRAI has also called out Vodafone, Idea, and Airtel to properly communicate with their subscribers in this regard and to not deactivate any SIMs until they have a balance equal to the minimum recharge value.
